Most of the parking lots around the Center are pay lots at $1 per hour. The lot right across the street from LaSells can be accessed via Western Blvd. There are two pay stations in the lot. The nice lady at the LaSells Stewart Center asked me to tell you that the one on the south end, closest to Western Blvd. takes credit cards, paper money, and coins. The one on the north end closest to Reser Stadium will take credit cards but is not too happy with cash or coins, even though it says it takes all three!
HOTEL CLOSEST TO LASELLS STEWART CENTER
The Hilton Garden Inn (click for website), located on the south side of Western Blvd and 26th, is across the street from LaSells Stewart Center. Non-guests of the hotel are asked by OSU to be good neighbors and NOT use the Hilton Garden Inn parking lot while attending the memorial service.

A Sailing Ship
We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. —2 Corinthians 5:8
Dorothy, an elderly woman, was near death. She loved the Lord and longed to be with Him. The nurse told her family that Dorothy would probably hold on until she could see her daughter, who was on her way to say goodbye. The nurse said, "It's as if Dorothy has one foot here and the other in heaven. She wants to take that last step soon."
That reminds me of the following beautiful description of dying by Henry van Dyke:
"I am standing at the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck of white cloud, just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other. . . . And just at the moment when someone at my side says: 'There, she is gone!' there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: 'Here she comes!' And that is dying."
Even more comforting for the loved ones of a believer who dies are the words of the apostle Paul: "If our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens" (2 Cor. 5:1). We can rejoice in our sorrow knowing our departed loved ones are now present with the Lord (v.8). — Anne Cetas

Because Christ lives, death is not tragedy but triumph.

Respectfully honoring Bruce, Jim Clark
Mary Beth, and Family,
I would so much like to be able to attend the celebration for Bruce, but will not be able to. You may not remember me, but I prayed with Bruce and you last summer at the Mt. Hermon Family Camp. My wife went to be with Jesus in June of 2006, and last summer was a time of healing for me. Mary Beth, it is so important to know that Bruce has gone to be with Jesus, and is in no more pain nor suffering. We all miss him greatly, and will continue to miss him for ever, but the LORD will help the pangs to become less severe as time passes, and HE directs us into new pathways. I am sure that GOD will bless all of you with a beautiful service, and HE will continue to bless you in the days and weeks to come. I remain your friend in Jesus, Sandy Wilson
The world is sadder and a little bit colder right now. He would not want it to stay that way for him. Though, for a time, it will. A very good man has come and gone in our midst's.
Please keep his loving spirit and open and hearty laugh in your memory bank. Bruce is now quiet but his actions will speak volumes for some time to come.
This is a sad time but he now feels no pain and will guard his flock from above.

Mary Beth, Oh how I wish I were able to come and celebrate Bruce's life with you. Know that I remember and celebrate here. I wrote this poem as I thought about Bruce.
Timeless Journey
Springing forth from the rich earth; innocent and unaware!
Nourished in the shelter of the Unseen.
Strengthened and bending in the wind; Drinking in the sweet waters.
I know nothing else forever!

We are saddened at your loss, but rejoicing that Bruce is with his Savior and Lord. We have read and prayed from a distance, and wish that we could be with you at the service to celebrate Bruce's life. He was such an encouragement and example to me, and a friend.
You and the kids will continue to be in our prayers, that the God of all comfort will be with you, and that He will give you true joy in your sorrow, knowing that Bruce's faith is now sight, as he is worshiping at the throne in heaven!

My thoughts and prayers have been with Bruce and his family since I read of his journey home to the Lord last week. He was one of my first friends when I came to Oregon State for college. His life, love for his family, and faith in God is a testament and encouragement to all. I hope this brings you comfort in the days and weeks ahead:
